Nurshaishireen continues Sports School’s dominance in B Div Girls Triple Jump
Nurshaishireen Mohd Rahim added another year to the Singapore Sports School’s domination of the B Division Girls triple jump when she won the event by a whisker yesterday.
The 16-year-old Secondary Four student, who finished fifth last year, captured the gold with her 10.88m leap, which was eight centimetres further than nearest rival Lim Shuen of St Nicholas Girls (10.80m).
Nur Aisyah Zainudin of Cedar Girls was third with her best effort of 10.69m.
The Sports School has been winning the B Division Girls event since 2006. Gail Chia started the ball rolling when she won the 2006 title. Now with Raffles Institution Junior College, she won the A Division gold on Tuesday with her 11.20m leap.
The 2007 and 2008 gold medals were easily won by national women’s record holder Mariam Shazana. In fact, Mariam set a B Division record last year with her 11.56m leap.
Mariam is now pursuing a diploma in exercise science and sports management with the Auckland University of Technology and is no longer eligible to compete in the National Schools Championships.
Meanwhile, the B Division Boys High Jump saw Samuel Lim, his Hwa Chong Institution schoolmate Tan Wei Jie, and Brian Wang of Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) all registering 1.77m.
But Samuel took the gold on countback. Likewise, Wei Jie was awarded the silver on countback.
