How Singapore’s athletes are faring at the Asian Athletics Championships
Here are Singapore’s results at the Asian Athletics Championships in Guangzhou so far:
1. Men’s 100m
Poh Seng Song (personal best: 10.49sec) finished sixth in his heat in 10.85sec while Mohd Jamal Amirudin was last in his heat in 10.88sec.
The final was eventually won by China’s Zhang Pei Ming (10.28sec). Japan’s Naoki Tsukahara was second in 10.32sec while Guo Fen of China took the bronze in 10.37sec.
2. Men’s long jump
Matthew Goh (national record: 7.53m) was unplaced after registering three ‘no marks’.
The event was won by China’s Li Jin Zhi (8.16m) while Saudi Arabia’s Alsaba Hussain Taher (7.96m) and China’s Yu Zhen Wei was third (7.96m but lost on countback).
3. Women’s pole vault
Singapore’s Rachel Yang (national record: 3.75m) was unplaced after failing to clear 3.60m thrice. She was one of three athletes who were unplaced.
China made it a one-two finish with Li Caixia winning gold with her best effort of 4.30m. Compatriot Wu Sha was second with 4.15m while South Korea’s Choi Yu-Hee was third with 4.00m.
4. Men’s 4x100m relay
Singapore’s quartet of Gary Yeo, Muhd Elfi Mustapha, Amirudin and Seng Song did not finish their heat.
5. Men’s triple jump
Stefan Tseng (national record: 16.04m) finished eighth with his best effort of 15.58m, which was achieved on his second jump. His other distances were 15.21m, 15.24m, 15.29m, 15.04m, 15.42m.
Kazakhstan’s Roman Valiyev won in 16.70m while China’s Zhu Shu Jing was second (16.67m). Kazakhstan’s Yvegenhy Ektov took bronze with 16.49m.
6. Women’s discus
Wan Lay Chi (national junior record for 1.0kg: 47.17m; personal best: 47.74m) was eighth out of nine competitors in her event. She threw 45.09m.
China won gold and silver through Song Ai Min (63.90m) and Ma Xu Jun (63.63m) while India’s Poonia Krishna was third (59.84m)
