HE MAY be a two-time billiards world champion, but Singapore’s Peter Gilchrist had to settle for bronze for a second consecutive Asian Games.
The 42-year-old was beaten 3-2 by Myanmar’s Oo Nay Thway Oo despite a spirited fight from two frames down in Sunday morning’s semi-finals.
Gilchrist had looked set to book himself a place in the final when he romped to 3-0 wins over Thawat Sujaritthurakarn of Thailand and South Korean Baek Min Hu earlier in the round of 16 and quarter-finals respectively.
This is Singapore’s first bronze and second medal at the Guangzhou Games. Swimmer Tao Li won a silver in the women’s 100 butterfly on Saturday.
