Tanjong Katong Girls School student Kimberly Lim Min emerged as a strong contender for a spot at next year’s 2010 Asian Sailing Championships when she won the NOSS Sailing Championships Optimist title last weekend.

The 13-year-old student put in a near-flawless display and was a model of consistency at the event held at the National Sailing Centre as she finished with just 13 points. Elisa Yukie Yokoyama of Katong Convent finished second while Jeremiah Guo of the Singapore Sports School was third.

The NOSS Sailing Championships is one of two nomination events for sailors vying to represent the Republic at the Asian Championships in Shanwei, China. The other nomination event is the Malaysian National Championships in Langkawi in December.

Meanwhile, national serviceman Scott Glen Sydney comprehensively thrashed the rest of the field in the Byte competition. The event proved to be a walkin the park for the 18-year-old who won the title after winning nine of the 10 races over three days of competition.

Brothers Tan Jen U (St Joseph’s Institution) and Tan Jen-E (Raffles Institution) finished second and third respectively.
